This was going to be my next column, which did not get published, so at that point I was still employed. Imagine how much penny-pinching I will have to do now?
IN my never-ending quest of penny-pinching I take my lunch to work almost every day.
I don’t mind, I love the gourmet salads, sandwiches and occasional left-overs I make, but admittedly, it is so nice to have someone else make it for you every now and again.
Working in the Noosa Junction, I have a plethora of eateries at my finger tips, including everything from pub food, to trendy cafes and international cuisine, but my regular haunt is Quenchers Espresso Bar & Juicery, who serve delicious salad wraps and so much more.
Owners Baz and Tash Riley call themselves “wrap artists”, and understandably so, because these meals are not your average ham and salad lavash. Some wraps take their name from famous salads which inspired their ingredients like Caesar, Niscoise and Greek, but others feature more modern combinations with quirky titles, like my favourite this month the “Hong Kong Fooee”, made up of cabbage, beetroot, carrot, snow peas, crispy noodles and Asian-style dressing – yum!
The clever names don’t stop their, they have a list of juices, “quenchers” and smoothies as long as your arm, like Huggy Bear, Menage a Trois, Charlie Sheen and Beam Me Up. And you can take it from me, it’s not just about the names, their flavour combinations are every bit as impressive. For those visiting from the UK, drop in for a taste of home and order a Banoffee Pie smoothy, made from banana, caramel and biscuit.
If you’re dreaming of what lavash combination you’d like to try, Quenchers is running a competition calling to your inner “wrap artist” to come up with the ingredients to feature as their gourmet wrap of the week.
I knew straight away what I wanted, I called it “Lambada”, with thinly sliced roast lamb, romaine (or cos) lettuce, sliced tomato, red onion, mayonnaise and mint jelly.
If you think you can come up with something better than that, send your recipe of no more than six ingredients, including dressing, in-store or via their facebook page (www.facebook.com/Quenchers.com.au) and you could win a free lunch, as well as having your creation feature as gourmet wrap of the week.
Don’t forget to give your wrap an original name and include your details with your entry.

I’ll have to try that one time! Sounds different.
